Biography

I’m Stéphanie Bouchard, a pastel artist based in the Laurentians for over twenty years. My creative spark comes from my native Saguenay, where I was introduced early on to theatre, operetta, music, and drawing. I pursued studies in communications while continually returning to the visual arts.

Soft pastel was a turning point: its light, intense colors, and direct gesture led me from a more abstract language toward intuitive figuration. My favorite subjects range from still lifes and floral compositions to Laurentian landscapes, as well as urban scenes and memories from my travels. A globe-trotter at heart, I gather atmospheres, textures, and light that I translate onto paper—bustling alleyways, markets, shorelines, gardens, faces encountered along the way. I also explore contemporary pieces with gestural, textured grounds. Through these works, I seek to capture emotion in the moment—with the speed, sensitivity, and unique vibrancy of pastel.

I’ve had the opportunity to exhibit on several occasions, both in group shows and solo. My work has been featured in Art and Color 360 and has received multiple awards, notably at the international exhibition “Les Pastellistes” of the Société de pastel de l’Est du Canada. I am a member of the Société de pastel de l’Est du Canada, the Regroupement des artistes en arts visuels du Québec (RAAV), and the American Pastel Society.
